How do Coronaviruses infect humans?
Coronaviruses (CoV’s) are enveloped RNA viruses that have a club-like S-protein or “spike protein.” This spike protein carries a positive charge and is the part of the virus responsible for binding to the host’s (your) cells. Research suggests that much like a magnet, the positively-charged spike protein actively seeks a negatively-charged receptor binding site, and this “connection” is the way in which the virus infects humans.
